Intern for REBEAT!

We’re seeking an intern for summer 2015. The ideal candidate has an interest in our subject matter (beyond “I love the Beatles!!!11!11!!”), a sense of humor, a desire to contribute in some manner editorially, and a self-starting attitude (since this is a virtual opportunity). The goal of your internship on our end is not to overload your plate with menial busywork that won’t give you a sense of what a start-up magazine is like. Rather, every task will serve the greater purpose and provide you with hands-on editorial and marketing skills that you can use in the future.

Some responsibilities will include:

  • Social media (posting, analytics, maintenance)
  • Copyediting articles
  • Working with publicists and sending out links to review material
  • Interacting with staffers
  • Compiling and researching a media guide
  • Brainstorming marketing and advertising strategies with editor and staff
  • Writing and publishing weekly news roundup
  • Sourcing material/shows/albums/etc. that we should be covering
  • General editorial and administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in editing, whether your own blog, someone else’s, a school newspaper, etc.
  • Interest in the music and culture of the 1950s-1970s
  • Creativity and motivation to think outside the box
  • A working knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr especially) and WordPress
  • Currently enrolled in post-graduate studies of some kind

Hours and start date are flexible depending on your schedule, and we’re happy to work with advisors to make sure you receive proper credit for your internship. Although this is an unpaid opportunity, perks come in the form of portfolio-building articles, press passes to concerts, music for review, and more.

This summer promises to be a really exciting time for REBEAT, as we’re revamping the site, launching a few new projects, and celebrating our one-year anniversary — we’d love to have you onboard!

To apply, please send a bit about yourself, your resume, why you’d be right for this position, and five topic ideas you think might be a good fit for the magazine to editor@rebeatmag.com.

Thank you!
